janu basti

Janu Basti is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy for knee pain, involving a dough dam built around the knee joint, filled with warm, medicated oil or herbal decoction to deeply nourish tissues, reduce inflammation, lubricate the joint, and improve mobility for conditions like arthritis, injuries, and stiffness. This localized treatment, from Sanskrit "Janu" (knee) and "Basti" (retention), provides relief by allowing oils to penetrate, strengthening bones, muscles, and cartilage, and promoting healing.
How it Works
Preparation: A ring is formed around the knee using a dough (usually black gram flour) to create a container.
Application: Warm medicated oil or herbal liquid is poured into this reservoir.
Retention: The warm liquid is kept in place for a set time (around 45 mins) to allow deep absorption, with oil being replaced to maintain warmth.
Massage: After the oil is drained, the area is massaged to further enhance circulation and benefit.
